Anyone bought an iphone in USA

Hi, looking at buying the new iPhone 11 when on holiday for our daughters xmas as it works out a lot cheaper than back home. Was looking to purchase direct from apple unlocked and sim free. Has anyone bought a phone before on holiday and did everything work ok back home?

Yes, DS got an iPhone XS a couple of weeks ago whilst we were there.

They transferred all his settings, contacts etc for him in the apple shop. We put his UK SIM (we are all on 3) into his new phone and it was working immediately and works fine back at home.

Brilliant, thanks for this. It's 3 we are with also so great to hear it worked fine. It is for her Christmas so wouldn't be able to get them to set it up whilst there but hopefully we should manage it fine on xmas day.

How much cheaper? Don't forget USA prices don't include tax and you should be paying customs duties on it when you're back in the UK...

How could customs be forgotten when there are helpful reminders?

We always buy our iPhones in US (either we get them in one of the Apple stores or in Best Buy). Not as great a bargain as they used to be with poor currency exchange but we still save something. The guy in Best Buy even set ours up for us with our UK SIM cards so that it was seamless. I got a lovely red one the last time as the guy suggested my trade in / selling value should be a little bit more.

Really not worth the savings once you add tax and custom charges

I bought an IPhone XS from bestbuy for $999 and they were £999 in the UK.
