I'm having the same issue, All other aspects of our holiday is booked, however the cost of car hire is still high, Virgin are coming up the cheapest, but still a lot more then I'm willing to pay. Andy, Alamo Brits and Netflights are so expensive. We only want a Compact for 10 days, and in previous years we've only paid up to £200. For next year they are £380 - £420

Do I just book at current prices or shall I just wait it out and hope the prices drop?

I’ve booked 9 nights with Virgin Atlantic, intermediate suv, airport pick up, city drop off, gold insurance(incl. satnav) £389. I thought that was high! Booked it now as everywhere else was at least £100 more, can cancel if prices drop, but was concerned they might increase so jumped in. Alamo is our company of choice, but everyone was so expensive!

I've just paid £910 for 28 nights next August. That's for a 7 seater mini van, 4 drivers and a tank of fuel. Collect and drop off at Tampa. Booked through Discount Florida Car Hire.
Happy with that as most other places were £1100+. Costco was £1035 but no tank of fuel included.
