In theory, someone could just as easily hack the current system which uses Magicbands and plastic cards to open a door. Bluetooth has longer range but it’s ‘only’ about 10m.

Mobile

I love not having to hold anything, get anything out of a bag or lanyard - to me MBs are easier than a phone app for that reason. And you can go on a ride without anything in your pocket!

Seen a recent video from TimTracker where they bypassed the main reception at the hotel and just walked to their room and used their existing magic bands to unlock the door.

Probably not much use to us U.K folk who go every other year.
But would be very useful for guests who return regularly, after a long flight just drive straight to your hotel and walk into your room without issue. Don't need to see anyone or speak to anyone. Use your phone or existing magic band to unlock the door.

If you don't have a magic band you can return to the front desk in the morning and pick them up.

Sounds like a bonus to me, no need to speak to anyone after a long days travelling.

But, as you point out, that facility already exists with the MagicBand system and has done for some time.

It's not something new introduced with this mobile phone digital key system mentioned in the first post. All that adds is the ability to use your mobile phone, rather than a MagicBand, to open your door.
