MK - the mountains and 7DMT - which are most exciting?
We have been to MK in Disneyland California.
Our favourite ride there was space mountain. Probably then followed by thunder mountain (but at night, because it was faster, and beautiful). We liked splash mountain, but there was a bit too much relaxing boat ride (we prefered the water water rapids ride in Californian Adventure). SO, I'm trying to work out which rides to FP most in WDW. As I understand, space mountain is rather different. More of a family ride - slower (and probably a bit less exciting). Based on our experience of splash mountain in California, I have mainly gone for 7DMT, and Thunder Mountain (with the idea of rope dropping splash mountain one day, rope dropping Space mountain another, and FP+'ing space mountain only once). I want to check if my rationale above is correct. Basically, which is faster, space mountain or thunder mountain, and is splash mountain 90% Brer Rabbit, 10% splash? Thanks! |

See I've been on thunder in the day and night at WDW and again it was a lot faster at night.
I would say thunder at night is faster than space mountain, but there probably the same in the day and your correct about splash mountain

As far as I can remember space mountain was quite jerky and not that great. Splash mountain has a long scenic boat ride as you say. Big thunder mountain railroad was good day or night and 7 dwarves was good but very short. I think BTMR was the best all rounder but none of them are 'white knuckle rides' as such.

7DMT is popular but not a thrill ride. It’s also very short. BTM is probably the closest to being a thrill ride although we do love Splash Mountain. Space Mountain is very rickety but probably second to BTM.

BTM, Splash, Space then 7DMT for me.
Splash is a good long ride at WDW, lots of brer but also lots of splashes too! Space is fun but I find it a bit painful. Dwarves is cute but not a thrill ride and pretty short. BTM is just great day or night (though night is my favourite!) |

Thanks for all your thoughts. I am guessing that 7dmt won’t be a favourite. But, I’m also thinking that we might pick up space/thunder extra FPs (after our three are done) more easily than 7dmt... so perhaps stick with 2 7dmt as FP+ because that will be our only chance of riding it? Am I wrong about the mountains being easier to FP later?

Our 3 is always splash, space and sdmt. Btm (though not as good as the Paris version, haven’t been to California) usually has the shorter queues of the 4.

Technically, Big Thunder Mountain is slightly faster than Space Mountain. However, in my opinion, Space Mountain is more thrilling and feels faster than Big Thunder Mountain. That's because Space Mountain is in the dark so you can't see what's coming and has sharper bends than Big Thunder Mountain. Big Thunder Mountain is a fairly gentle rollercoaster whereas Space Mountain is more jerky.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a tamer version of Big Thunder Mountain. Technically, it goes almost the same speed as Big Thunder - and quicker than Space Mountain - but it doesn't feel that fast.

7dmt isn’t IMO a better ride than any of the others you’ve listed however it does always seem to have the harder to secure FP+ and longer wait times (probably because it’s popular with younger kids). We often pick up fp+ for Space Mountain and BTMR later on the actual day. Rarely have we been able to do so with 7dmt.
