Cancel one guest for medical reasons?

Long shot but I was wondering if anyone had any experience in this issue:
A friend has a Disney resort booking for 3 people in one room and unfortunately one person can’t go for medical reasons. They hadn’t paid their 3rd of the booking yet but the other two guests have. I’m sure Disney will remove the cost of their ticket but their share of the room hasn’t been paid and the other two guests can’t afford to absorb the cost. Does anyone know if Disney have any policies to help in this situation or would be able to help with the remaining cost of the room? The person who can’t go now hadn’t taken travel insurance out yet as the booking isn’t until October so can’t claim - hard lesson learned by them!

Any experience or advice would be amazing please!

I don't think there is anything they can do here. The cost of the room will be the same. However itss surely still their responsibilty to pay it as agreed. I don't see why the other two should shoulder the cost due to one person not taking insurance. Also confused how they have paid 2/3 of the room costs?

As we all know from the dibb insurance needs to be taken out when the holiday is booked...
As Ellenut has said the room costs the same whether there is one person or 4, there isn’t room for a reduction, they will need to find the extra (the person who is cancelling owes it, but good luck with that one) or cancel, or try to change the booking for a cheaper room?
I can see how 2/3rds has been paid if they were paying in instalments?
What about their flights are they booked too?

It's not fair for the two remaining guests to stump up for the third party. He/she should be paying. It'll teach them to take out insurance in the future.

Yes the cost of the room doesn’t vary by the number of people staying (sometimes a small surcharge in some hotels for “extra” guests.) So nothing Disney can or will do. If the “canceller” won’t pay thier share and If the others really can’t split the extra cost then the only thing I could suggest is contacting whoever booking was made through and see if it could be moved to cheaper accommodation they can afford

Thanks for all the advice guys! Yeah they had called Disney up and paid just their share off so it was just this person who’s not paid. Unfortunately she’s not communicating much so we don’t know if she’s going to commit to paying her fair share so just looking at all the options. Cheaper room may be the best call! Thanks again

Just to add that if they do go the cheaper room route, they will be charged the £50 amendment fee as the overall price of the booking has gone down- now Disney may waive this but it is a policy.
