Well, i'm changing the villa to one at Windsor Hills so that if the worst happens then at least we won't be 40 mins away.

Been looking at going to Vegas in the fall followed by a four day/three night road trip through Utah to Salt Lake City. The car quotes came back around $650! I then looked at just two days one night with drop off in SLC, and it was still $500. Needless to say Utah will not be happening unless things change drastically. Thankfully there is some time. Just insane what's going on with rental cars. I've heard stories of people renting U-Haul trucks because they were cheaper than available cars. Fingers crossed the supply issue gets fixed soon.

Hi E&P, I too read the comment about some renting U-Haul trucks due to car hire costs... I also read that car hire in Hawaii hit $1k a day, and whilst many will decline, obviously many more are willing to pay these high rates.

Hopefully issues will resolve once the car suppliers are able to procure new cars, but when that'll be is anybody's guess right now.

It’s not expected to get better until after summer.

i read on a US site that people who had booked prior to the price rises had had their bookings changed to reflect the new prices

I had 3 cars booked with Alamo through Virgin for our July trip which has now been cancelled.

I hadn’t got round to cancelling them as am currently abroad and didn’t fancy paying £2 a minute to phone Virgin but they’ve just emailed me to cancel my bookings anyway which saves me the hassle. I’m a bit sceptical about their cancellation reasons though…

I am contacting you to let you know that due to a recent Covid 19 policy change, we have had to cancel your car hire booking with us. I am so sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment this causes.

We have issued you with a full refund which will be processed back to the same method of payment used on the booking within the next 14 working days. Should we be unable to refund this back to the original payment method, you will receive an email from our accounts team requesting your bank details via a secure link, the payment will then be processed as a bank transfer payment.

I'd imagine its because its far easier and less time consuming to blanket cancel everything as opposed to handling lots of enquiries asking for payment delays / amendments / and individual cancellations.

Also, probably because Alamo will be sending them the invoice for payment for July and August bookings and Virgin know those rentals won't be going ahead so they'd rather keep the money than have to claim it back.
