Secondary school teaching - train in a school?
My Daughter is almost at the end of her degree. She took Primary Ed which she has regretted as she wants to become a secondary teacher rather than primary (placement put her off primary ed).
Does anyone know of an alternative to doing another year at uni. She really just wants to get on with life and has had enough of uni life. I know they do a Scitt for Primary but do they do this for secondary? Any help and guidance would be great. Thanks

Our local high school offer school direct training. We have their teachers in our school quite often. They seem to be in placements from the start of the year. |

Yes SCITTs are offered in Secondary school.
Was her degree in Primary ed? Could it be just the school that she was placed in that has put her off?, could she volunteer in a local primary and secondary school to see if this has an impact before she commits further?

Her degree will be primary ed, she dropped the QTS element as she just kept getting placed in reception years and felt she wasn't covering the whole of primary. Sadly she made her decision because of this. The uni, once placed in a KS group, wouldn't move her to higher years for placement.
She still wants to be a teacher, but has decided that secondary would be better for her. She loved business at A' level and thats the way she's heading now. She is planning to email her Business Studies teacher at school and see if he can help with some volunteering.

This is for England - I know the rules are different in Scotland and I'm not sure about Wales and Northern Ireland.
Does her primary ed degree come with QTS? If yes she is actually qualified to teach in a secondary though depending on subject schools it may be worth doing a subject enhancement course- gov.uk/government/public...urse-directory What subject would she like to teach in secondary?

I'm sure the secondary school my husband teaches at had people on a course training to be teachers 'on the job'.
This website might be helpful for your daughter as it explains the different routes into teaching getintoteaching.education.go...E&gclsrc=aw.ds |

Thank you for all of your replies. She is going to go with the Scitt route and has a lot of things to look at tomorrow.
I really appreciate the Dibb as there is always someone with the answers

She could look at Teach First where the QTS is gained on the job so to speak, or go down the SCITT route.
If you are in the Yorkshire and Humber area take a look at GORSE SCITT. |
