Japan - Things Closed on a Sunday?

Was just wondering if Sunday was just another day in Japan when it came to doing things like going places, shopping etc, are some places closed?

When we went, it was like Sunday here, opened about 10, although at the shop we went to, they came out with umbrellas and tea for the people waiting until it opened . And then they bowed as we all went in, bit like in the UK... LOL
