I'm of the opinion these idiots will never stop me doing what in would do normally. Obviously I would never put myself or my family in deliberate danger but the risks of travelling round every day in my car are probably higher than being involved in terrorist attacks!
Someone randomly stabbing strangers is newsworthy be it the Arndale or not. Most stabbings in Manchester are gang/drug related ie relatively common and not so newsworthy.

We are the opposite, staying away from Manchester as much as possible, except for work, or smaller gigs at Star & Garter, Ritz, etc.
Printworks was evacuated the same night due to completely separate intelligence.
MEN will eventually move to a new location. Many simply won't go back.
One of the problems is not telling us the truth ?
The NYE attacks at Victoria were quickly categorised as 'lone wolf mental health', that changed for trial ?
I'm sick of 'One Love', Oasis, and bees, being wheeled out before victims even make it into the back of an ambulance.
I've no idea why Manchester is being targeted but at least Andy Burnham should be honest about it.

As there are right around the UK.

In the year ending March 2019 there were 43,516 knife crime offences recorded in the UK (the total is actually higher because they exclude Greater Manchester which had a "data recording issue").

Additionally, there were approaching 5,000 admissions to hospital in 2018 by those who had been assaulted with a knife.

It made the news because he was waving a knife around trying to stab multiple people. The Arndale was evacuated and locked down, friends of mine where locked in Clark's shoe shop for 30 minutes because of all the panic. It wasn't just another stabbing.
We where in the Trafford centre that evening and things like this will never stop me going to the city centre.

For example, there was another random stabbing on Saturday night In Manchester. Meanwhile, someone was stabbed in the Westfield shopping centre in London a day after the Manchester stabbing. Sadly, stabbings happen quite often, both in Manchester and elsewhere. This was just another.

I think the main difference is that the incident on Friday happened in the morning whereas most others happen in the evening.

I was reading an online article in the Times which, as well as completely sensationalising the whole Manchester stabbing incident ("It was like a horror film"), tried to make out that the Arndale Centre was a big target for terrorist attacks. It listed the firebombs in 1991, the large IRA bomb in 1996, the Ariana Grande concert suicide bomb in 2017, and now this attack. Except, erm, the Ariana Grande incident was at the MEN arena not at the Arndale Centre. And this knife attack is now not thought to be terror-related. Which means, based on their examples, the Arndale Centre hasn't been targeted by terrorists for over 20 years. So, it's not really a big target for terrorists then.

It made the news because they thought it was a terrorist attack. The police (rightly) reacted as if it was a major terrorist attack. And, as you said, because of this they locked down the Arndale.

If this happened in the evening and the person was clearly drunk or on drugs whilst waving a knife around trying to stab multiple people, then the reaction would've been different. It would've been treated like another stabbing and it might have briefly made the local news (eg. see here).
