Advice Please
Hi
We were planning to go to New York/Vegas this year and are looking at going October half term but flights prices are quite high so I have started looking at doing LA/LV instead as the flights are alot cheaper but we would only be able to go for 9 nights as don't want to take DD out of school for more than a couple of days. this is how we are looking at spending the time: 2 nights santa monica 4 nights Vegas (drive there and back) 3 nights Anaheim What do you think of this and also how tiring would it be? Is the jetlag far worse then Orlando( we haven't been to bad coming back from there). We would arrive back on a sunday and DD not back at school till the tuesday. Also what is the weather like at that time of year. Both times we have been to Orlando it has been October and the weather has been right for us.

If budget is a concern - try and do Las Vegas in the week, not Fri & Sat. It will save a lot on room costs.
I think the jetlag question is so subjective, it's impossible to answer. I sometimes suffer - more when I'm there than when I'm back, to be honest- and other times it's not affected me either way. The drive is long - four and half/five hours to Las Vegas, about half an hour more back (it always takes longer driving back to LA). My advice would be to set off early both times as that certainly saves time. Looking at your dates, it looks like you''ll be in Anaheim Wed/Thu/Fri, Las Vegas Sat- Tu and Santa Monica Th/Fr - is that right? A shame but if you're dead set on those, it can't be helped. Just be wary of starting the Las Vegas part on a Saturday - some casinos do not like Saturday start nights so you may be restricted. Columbus Day is Oct 13th too ( a Monday) but it's not a big holiday so shouldn't effect you. Also allow time driving from LA- LV on the weekend - it can be brutal, I'm afraid. October weather is variable, but generally very pleasant. It's the first of the 'cooler' months, but you'll certainly get 80s in both places (maybe more in LV). Can be a bit overcast in LV, but you may get four gorgeous days. It's a nice time for LA but the Santa Ana winds are in October and it's the worst month for bush fires, which can sometimes be a pain. Overall though, October is a good time to visit. It's also not a bad month for big conventions in LV : vegasbrothers/conventions?year=2014

I think the jet lag is worse and i have taken the kids to Vegas for a week when they were little, but i wouldn't do again because i find it takes me a good 3/4 days to get to feeling anywhere near human , but when we come home i don't seem to suffer at all.
My kids often go back to school the day after we land , and they cope ok, though i'm sure they preferred it this year when they had 2 days to recover before school. |

Thanks for your answers.
Diamonddog, Yes we were looking at flying out on the thursday so the dates you put are correct. I didn't fancy driving far on the day we land so thought it would be best to do SM first. Would aim to get on the road as early as possible both driving days. The budget isn't a concern really it is just that I am getting quotes of nearly £900 for NY/LV flights from manchester.
