I think I might get her a filter jug to take back with her to try - she’s home next weekend.
She does drink quite a lot of squash so it’s definitely worth considering.

Well ds has gone into uni today, says he feels fine but he's said that for the last 6 weeks. I've spoken with the head of student services and he is having a chat with d's tmrw and trying to figure out how people with the same interests can get together. Ds will be furious with me but he cannot go on like he has and having 2 people he can relate to will make all the difference

I do hope your son can start to mix with others soon. I really think the universities could make meeting people easier with special get togethers (not necessarily with drinks) for the first few months, not just freshers week.
Georgia has just had lunch with two girls on her course and they have decided to make it a regular Monday date now as they have 4 hours of labs on a Monday so it’s a nice way to relax afterwards. I was thrilled when she messaged to say this, as I was beginning to think she wasn’t socialising and wouldn’t make friends. She isn’t one to go out all the time, but everyone needs a small, good friendship group. I’m feeling much more optimistic today that she is getting there at last 😀 |

Sounds like all our young ones are finding it a bit tough settling in to student life. DS is doing ok - actually we are really impressed that he is managing cooking, shopping and getting to classes! However he is still not feeling well - he came home on Friday for a GP appointment as he’s been having diarrhoea for about a month and gagged after most meals. He’s to get blood tests done to see what’s going on. V proud that he is managing so well but hope we get to the bottom of his illness. Agree with others that if they can join in clubs and societies they will make like-minded friends.

Oh your poor son, it’s hard enough settling in without being ill. Georgia had a few sick days and found it very difficult to cope alone although she did manage to go to every lecture even though she was ill.
I do hope the gp can find out what the problem is for your son and give him something to help. |

It’s still small steps but it is a start in the right direction. She said she woke up really homesick this morning so she actually asked the girls if they wanted to go for lunch. I was really surprised to think she had actually instigated the get together but very proud of her.
They only went to a cafe near the uni and had a bacon roll and coffees but they have decided to do this each Monday now and try different cafes each week. Georgia is thinking of asking them if they want to look around the shops or something on the weekend. |

How’s everyone doing this week? Georgia has had a great week socially, she has been meeting a couple of girls from her course for coffees and lunch regularly and been to their flat to socialise with them. She is also starting to chat more with her housemates and even went to a pub with them last night. She only drank water but chatted and they all played Uno, she didn’t go back early either (which she thought she would want to do) but was out until midnight 😀 Then today she has had a really great day out in Bath with her walking society where they saw all the sights and had a nice lunch together and she made more friends. She has more cafe visits planned this week including the Cat’s Cafe and the Board Game Cafe.
It’s her birthday Tuesday so it will be strange not to see her in the day. Our mum and daughter birthday trip to Disney last year seems such a long time ago now. However she is coming home next weekend, and it’s my birthday then too, so we are going to a local theatre to see a play to celebrate our birthdays so that will be nice She has said the workload is getting more now, and the terminology and work expected is very different and more complicated than she is used to. She has a few pieces of work to submit this week that goes towards her end of year mark which worries her as she feels underprepared and doesn’t feel she has been taught how to write in the way expected. I’m presuming everyone is similar though, as they all sat the same (or equivalent) A levels and they will all be feeling the same as she is. Hope the week has been good for everyone and that others who have been struggling has found it a little easier this week too Edited at 08:06 PM. |

Lovely news about Georgia so glad she’s had a good week!
Kate’s also has a better week, she’s started her new course and is really happy with her new choice. There are some nice people on the course that she thinks she can be friends with. She’s been on a shop crawl around Aberystwyth today and going on a dog walk tomorrow but still isn’t going out in the evenings. I’m hoping she’ll start soon! Kate has her Universal interview yesterday but think she messed it up, she doesn’t think she sold herself as well as she could have and kept saying “like” at the end of every sentence, she never usually does this! |
