Found a lost dog-UPDATED PAGE 3- anything else we can do ?

My son found a lost dog late Wednesday night(not in area we live) - it ran in front of his car but luckily son didn’t hit it . He brought it home , Thursday I took it to get to be scanned and though it’s chipped the number is unavailable and the address is quite a distance from where we found it and from us. It’s been out on so many Facebook pages and shared - we have been in touch with groomers , vets and dog wardens and no reports of missing dog . Two of my sons went back to the area Thursday night with the dog asked in takeaways and with people walking their dogs but no one recognised him . When the vet scanned him they didn’t give me any details not even a name or an age ? Are they allowed to give out any info on the chip ? We have told dog warden we will look after him for now as didn’t like the thought of him going into kennels - he tolerates my dog and cat and is a lovely little fella but someone must be missing him . Is there anything more we could be doing?

You said it was scanned and the address was far away from you and where it was found but either way you know where it lives?

I’d take it to the rscpa and they’ll likely reunite given they had that info..

The vet wouldn’t give me the info because of data protection I believe - the dog warden will send a letter as phone not available and they have 28 days to respond. I just don’t understand why no one has reported him missing . If I lost my dog I would be straight onto the dog warden .

Put some posters up around the area of his address.

It’s lovely you are looking after after him, it’s ridiculous they can’t get in touch with the owner or tell you so you can. I would phone the RSPCA and see what they can do, good luck. Xx

Perhaps they don't want to and deliberately dumped it away from home. people can be heartless rather than pay for kennels etc.

Agreed. We found an abandoned dog on New Year’s Day. Left at the side of the road with a lead and water bowl. RSPCA/Vets all closed. Had to ring the police in the end as it was aggressive and you couldn’t go near it. So selfish. The police have better things to do.

Well done to you OP on looking after the dog. Poor thing is probably very confused.

It could be that the details on the chip are out of date and they've moved house to closer where he was found.
