EVERYTHING is recycled as best we can. Household water from kitchen and shower is used for plants we grow for pleasure and the allotment. We have two wells one is what they call an artisan well ie like a wishing well. That’s filled when it Rains and is what we use for the orchard and the animals. We also have a sondeo- “ borehole “. That we use for showering etc it’s potable as it’s from a spring but we get it tested every year for icky stuff. The issue we have with having standing water saved all year is mosquitoes. We have just over a hectare of land so everything is watered by hand as to irrigate is expensive but more importantly it’s wasteful as pipes move or get dug up by the wildlife . So in the summer it takes two of us about two hours to water trees, plants veg change water for animals etc The veg plot is smaller so that is irrigated but due to the lack of rains for the past four years we have stopped growing vegetables and soft fruits this year to save the water reserves for the animals etc |
