Two of my daughters and I have had gallstones and had our gallbladders removed. The pain was different for all of us. Mine was on the right under my rib cage and through to my back, DD2’s was much lower in her back and DD3’s was in the centre under her bra line. Like DippieDawnie, I had a large stone that was stuck. Terrible pain! I said at the time, id rather give birth to them all over again! Good luck!

Sounds like gallstones. I would get pain under right ribs, right shoulder and in my back. Horrible horrible pain. I had mine out in 2017 and they found an inch large stone.
Get an appointment with your GP - they can get you a referral for an ultrasound which can detect gsllstones. There will be a wait for surgery so in the meantime the only way to keep pain somewhat less is to restrict your diet and find out what triggers the pain attacks. Mostly this will be anything with fat in it - cheese, butter, milk, visible fat on meats, fried food, dressings, avocado etc. I was in so much pain sll I managed to eat was strawberries and melon for weeks (lost a lot of weight). Hope you get better soon.

I thought I was having a heart attack the first time I suffered with gall stones. I saw my doctor the next day and he said it was acid reflux. Treated me for that for 4 years until he retired. I had more frequent painful attacks but he refused to take it further. When I saw my new doctor she sent me for a scan and it was gall stones. Had the op within weeks and no pain since.

When I had gallstones I thought I was having a heart attack when I had the first bout of pain... so my experience sounds similar to what you have described.
I don’t envy you, I really suffered from several attacks and it was horrible not knowing when they would come on. I had my gallbladder removed in the end and they found 2 large gallstones - they told me it was unusual as normally people have lots of little ones. Good luck - I hope you get an answer soon. |

YES YES YES! I endured years of tests on my heart for a suspected Heart problem including a really extensive (2 hours!) MRI Heart stress test in St Guys hospital to get the all clear. And after calling into my GP crying my eyes out after 16 straight hours of severe chest pain and by now i thought it was stress he took pity on me and arranged a scan. 2 days later the sonographer couldnt believe her eyes! My gallbladder was enlarged, inflammed, rammed full of stones and she had no idea how i was managing day to day! My pain nearly always was at night. Never had a colloration to food but importantly the pain was in my central chest mimicking heart attack.

I had mine out about 12 years ago, as others have described pain in right ribs and back, was awful. Dairy definitely set me off more than anything else. Been on medication ever since having it out but worth it!

Thanks so much everyone with the replies.
Im glad to say im much better than i was, although ive still got the pain its far less intense than it was. Like others have said it makes you question whether you are having a heart attack! In the mean time im having a few days off work whilst trying to get a doctors appointment. They cant get me one until a week on thursday so ive got to ring up everyday to hope and get one sooner. As long as im alright for my holiday! |

Remember You will need to inform insurance. My insurance wouldn’t cover me while I was under investigation. I had my gallbladder removed 7 weeks before my holiday though.

One thing I will say, is even though I had keyhole surgery and I’m normally fit and healthy it really did take 6 weeks to recover... I had my op in October and struggled with my Xmas shopping! So prepare for that, don’t have op to close to your holiday...
now all is good! 🙌 |

I’m due to have mine removed on 9th December and my employer is expecting me to be back and work over Christmas. Although it’s office based I do end up lifting and carrying crates of paperwork. I think it’s a bit ambitious of them.
