Road trip... Cash or traveller cheques?
Just wanting a bit of advice...
We are going on a 26 night West coast trip, covering San Fran, Yosemite, Monterey, Santa Barbara, LA, Anaheim, San Diego and Vegas. Obviously we will be carrying our spending money with us...just wondering whether traveller cheques are a safer option? Are they widely accepted everywhere? Any comments/advice appreciated, thank you |

I used TC's in Vegas this year (well the few ASDA managed to get for me! ) and the only place's that wouldn't take them were Juicy Couture and Victoria Secrets.
But i also ended up with the ASDA travel card and i found out as long as i used it in a ATM attached to a bank (usually in a Walmart car park) there are no charges at all, so i took out exactly what i put on it. I wouldn't ever take all my money in cash though, lose it and its gone for good because insurance doesn't cover much cash. |

I love TCs however when driving down the PC highway to Monterey we stopped in a little garage for petrol and they wouldn't accept them. I would take a mixture, cash, TCs and currency card. Just to be on the safe side

I would never advise to take all cash as it's never insured, take TC, CC or pre pay cards with some currency

I don't tend to use TC anymore as my debit card is free to use and does a good exchange rate and EVERYONE accepts cards in the US. I would be tempted to take a bit of cash and either check if your current card doesn't charge or get a CC that doesn't. Alt. I'v heard good things about the travel cards.
