Depends on the job. Some have an induction or training period that will be arranged to coincide with a new employee starting. Some have blackout dates for holidays - I am unable to book time off in December. My husband has project delivery mid March, so that's a no go month too.
I would be tempted to say nothing, but I know that when sat there I would blurt... "I have a holiday booked in April (whenever), will there be any issues with that?" |

I wouldn’t expect to be told at interview stage that someone had a holiday booked. I’d actually see it as a bit presumptuous 😂. I always honour holidays already booked anyway and if someone is the right fit for the team then I’ll want them regardless of inconvenient annual leave.

At interview, I would mention it if asked. I'd say it's 50/50 whether asked or not IME. I would mention it at offer stage either way to make sure that it won't be an issue and any leave exception (have worked in companies that don't allow leave in probation) is written into the offer if required.

I always mention it when being interviewed and I haven't ever not got the job. I feel it shows you're being 'up-front' with your prospective employer.
If I am interviewing I always ask. Holidays never come into the decision to offer the candidate the job with me.

Wouldn’t mention it at the interview unless asked directly, which shouldn’t normally happen. Would mention it if offered and accepted the job.

If I was interviewing someone and they started telling me about holidays in the interview, I’d get the impression that they could be more bothered about holidays than work. Mention it if they offer you the job.

When I went for the interview for my present job I told them at the interview that I had a months holiday booked 3 weeks actually on holiday and a week for personal reasons.
I just thought it best to be upfront about it rather than waste their time if it wasn’t agreeable to them.

Definitely only mention it at the interview if asked, I interview a lot and would be really put off.
I usually give my pre booked dates at offer stage and ask if any issue

Only time I'd mention it (or ask if interviewing) would be if the role wasn't permanent and a contract/seasonal role. If it's only for 4 months over summer then you need someone available for most of it.
If it's a permanent role then no I would discuss at interview but only once job offered as it's not relevant until then. |
