Easyjet 1 Ryanair 0

I posted in November how brilliant Easyjet were at transporting my medical equipment onboard my first flight abroad since my cancer treatment

Now I have had the opposite service from Ryanair

I rang on Sunday 16th Jan to ask for clarification about transporting the medical equipment I need on a Ryanair
flight from Manchester to Portugal

The person I spoke to said he needed to contact head office but I would receive a call
back that same day
No call and none yesterday

So I rang again this morning to be told that Ryanair had tried to call-(no missed calls logged on my mobile) and that instead of the approximate 60kg of equipment I need, I would only be allowed two 20kg bags and the rest I would have to pay for-final decision, no appeal possible

I feel I am being discriminated against due to my medical condition(Intestinal failure requiring Home Parenteral Nutrition)
something which I have no control over

Asking me to limit my equipment is liking asking me not to eat or drink for 48hours as this is the only way my body can absorb nutrients

No guesses as to who gets my business in the future

That's just pants 😢 ... and not fair.

Can your PN be sent directly? Then you would 'just' need pump and ancils as extra luggage? Or is it more complicated than that? X

Yes I thought of that but then I have to show my medical letters at security and bag check at the airport and who do I get to fly it out there

I haven't used them yet but both Jet2 and Virgin have said unlimited free baggage for medical equipment-it's just Ryanair that have been awkward

I suppose I should have waited for their call back before booking but there are seven other family members going and we needed to book soon

Who's your PN provider?

Will you use ready made (kabiven or similar) while away?

Try your homecare company to send direct, they will also sort customs etc. I've had experience of EN feed being sent direct, it works well. But not sure if you need to ensure cold chain?

Thanks for taking the time to reply-it's rare to find someone with experience of HPN

It's Lloyds Healthcare but I would need to pay them to send direct which kind of defeats the object? Ryanair will fly the extra weight but I will have to pay

No cold chain required- you are right my holiday bags will be ready made instead of my normal bespoke prescription which needs to kept between 2-8 deg C

I'm sure I'll manage a solution-my DH has a 20kg bag paid for so I'll make him pack light and use that

I'm just ticked off at Ryanair for being the only airline to make life even more difficult

I look after a lot of children on enteral feeds and the company nutricia usually delivers the feeds and consumables to their destination
Wonder if this is possible for you

Just thought I'd update

After posting on their Twitter and Facebook pages, Ryanair have emailed me today offering me an extra 10kg hand luggage so that's a bit better-I will be able to put my pump, batteries and charger in there instead of my regular hand luggage
