My DS is picking A levels at the moment and we've looked at 4 local colleges who all want the A levels to be of a theme, so languages, sciences humanities and not a mix. One only accepts you if you follow their advice on choices.

He's picked physics and maths (can't do physics without maths) and biology. Some are frowning on biology and feel engineering is a better fit.

DS doesn't want engineering so this might limited which college he picks.

We've gone with the ones he likes and is good at. Not sure on what degree yet but likely to be a Russel group

I guess his best bet for his third option is to choose whichever subject he thinks he’ll do best in, which at the moment he doesn’t know as his predicted grades are the same for both! He can always change his mind once he’s sat his GCSEs or for his results. He’ll probably have a better idea then.

I’m just glad he has a focus and knows he’s going to have to work really hard to get where he wants to be, even if it doesn’t work out.
I like his thinking ….my preferred place to study was hugely influenced by the fact that on the day I visited the campus a local bus driver told me the fare was 40p and your phone number
