Autism Airport Booklet
When we flew from Manchester Airport I printed an Autism friendly booklet out for my son which really helped him understand the whole airport process and what we needed to do next.
We're flying from Heathrow but I can't see anything on their website like this (just one for the plane which I've printed) does anyone know if they have an airport one that explains check in, security etc? Thank you x

If you have a printer you could make your own up using images from the web?
I found that a flow chart of each step of the way, made up of a few pictures, helped when DD was younger. We used to go down to Glasgow airport a few times just to walk about before our departure date, that helped..This might not be suitable if you live no where near an airport but they became days out, with an obligatory Starbucks treat.. Then for the flow chart I’d ask her to search for an image “airport check in” then use that, it became a fun project.. For the chart I first wrote down a list then done a flow chart…checkin - (where a lot of anxiety can arise due to the numbers of people and a lot of waiting) - security- waiting area - boarding etc. It helped us pin point possibly areas where anxiety could be raised. As you know, whenever doing something or going somewhere new the more we plan and prepare the easier things are for all.. I made this years ago and I don’t have it now otherwise I could have sent it to you. Edited at 01:55 PM. |
