That's actually kind of odd. A cat would not bite the head off an animal it caught. I've had many hunting cats and if anything they eat the body and leave the head

Mine has eaten the brain of a Rabbit in my kitchen.. and vomited copiously.

I just found this!

Perhaps the cats animal identification skills are not great and he mistook the Squirrel for a Rabbit?

We were wondering whether it could have been a bird of prey but where we found it's body was a bit too suspicious. Also, it isn't out of character for him to pull the heads off his kills. We have found quite a lot of headless birds that he has brought home. No idea why he likes the heads so much.

That's a really interesting article. It would explain a lot of his behaviour, and why we have yet to find a squirrel head. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how he managed to get it without any of us noticing. We are in and out all the time so I'm just stuck between being disgusted and incredibly impressed.

I would go for impressed.

Cat manners and etiquette may well be different to that of humans.

I suspect as others have said it was the work of another animal or roadkill and the head had been run over so it was easy to pull the body off.
We were in fort myers last month and there was a beautiful bird of prey on top of the pier roof picking madly at a big dead seagull , many people were looking and filming it 😄 poor old bird of prey he just wanted a quiet lunch .

Squirrels are just rats with good PR.

Word has got around.

The squirrels round here are now wearing disguises.
