Car hire cheaper than 2017?

Considering a change of plans from an on-site trip to an off-site one and just investigating car hire costs. I was pleasantly surprised by the costs on my first review of a little under £500 for a 7 seat minivan for 14 nights as I'm sure out cost in 2017 was far higher than that. Are prices more reasonable this year in general?

I was looking at us car hire. Have used them in the past with no quibbles. They offer free cancellation which can be a very helpful addition.

You mentioned a similar thing in the Accommodation section - starting to think the exchange rate is the theme running through the lower prices you're finding

You’re correct on the different posts but scale of change too different to be explained by FX movements alone. Plus car hire companies rate movements will be influenced by their hedging policies rather than movements in the spot rate. On car hire I’m seeing 30-40% reductions on a like for like basis from 2017. On accommodation it’s more like 50-70% but driven much more by a movement from huge 24 person accommodation to half that or less.
