What do you do on Nassau day - get off or stay on

Just wondering what everyone else does on Nassau day ?
We're going on out first Disney Cruise in October (3 day)... we're trying to decide whether to get off or stay on the ship on the day we dock at Nassau. We've had some folks say, get off and visit Atlantis, it's fab, other folks have said just stay on board and take advantage of the facilities. What did everyone else do ? Is Atlantis worth a visit (looks gorgeous), will it be mega busy ? Id it worth the money (wouldn't be doing the water park - just the visit).
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Many thanks

Get off, we walked about 20 minutes to Janaku beach and swam with the locals then walked back through the shops for an afternoon on the boat and lunch.
Off for about 3 hours in total.

Lots of people will say stay on but we had come so far we didn't want to miss it.

We got off and just wandered around the shops, just to say we had been and just for a change of scenery.

We got off and went to Starbucks for some free wifi then got back on again for lunch and enjoyed the ship.

We went to the pirate museum and did the pirate brewery tour. Would recommend both. We also went along to the beach but we are not really beach people.

We did exactly the same and just spent about 3 hours or so there. We had a leisurely breakfast and went to Junkanoo beach which is less than 10 minutes walk from the cruise ship. Plenty of nice bars for the cocktails! You can hire beds and umbrellas although we didn’t bother we just took towels from the ship.

I can’t remember how much Atlantis was but I can remember it being very expensive especially when there are 4 of you !

That sounds right up our street!

If you stay near the cruise terminal is it safe to walk around and browse the shops/bars etc and can you walk back to the ship easily? We're cruising with Carnival for the first time and I've had a look at a few of their excursions but they are not really our thing? We might just want to spend a few hours in the shops etc and then go back to the ship and wondered if this is possible? Am a total cruise newbie!

Thank you. There is an advisory about it in the unofficial Disney Cruise Line book so I was wondering if getting off and looking round on our own was a bad idea.
