RCL taster cruises UK

Has anyone done one of the RCL short/ taster cruises from the UK and would be willing to share their experience please?

We're thinking about one to 'test the water' with non DCL cruise lines

Our grown up kids have said they now want to come away with us as they feel they're missing out - we did offer for them to come with us last year but they thought it looked boring and now regret it!

So yay they want to cruise with us but no way can we afford DCL taking 2 adult kids and 2 teenagers

We did a 3 nighter from Southampton to Le Havre and beige on the anthem of the Seas as we really wanted to try the ship! We stayed on the ship for the whole time and I think a lot of others did the same as it seemed busier than any other cruise I have done even when In dock. It was too short for me and we didn’t get to do everything we wanted onboard but the anthem is a huge ship to be fair. I think if you are unsure about cruising it can be a good way to test how you like it. The only issue I find is the short cruises can be really steep, we paid only £200 more for a 10 night cruise with NcL the next year.

we did a taster cruise a few years ago now from Southampton on Independence of the Seas. We loved it- and this year are on our 4th cruise- and I am taking my mum for her first taster cruise in October. We also did Le Havre and Bruges. The only thing I didn't like though was the fact it seemed to be full of people on a drinking weekend- I like a drink but not to that extent, there was also a lot of kids doing whatever they wanted to do, causing mayhem, being rude etc, I haven't found this on longer cruises.

Thank you for the replies, they're really helpful

We were talking about renting a house in the UK for us all as a family get together but when factor in paying for meals out I thought we could maybe take the ones who haven't cruised before to see if they like it.

I know the RCL rooms are smaller than DCL do you think we will be better booking the teens in a separate room? We did 4 of us in an oceanview on DCL last year no problem.

We're doing the same cruise as disney_l81 this year as a taster as a family of four for the end of August. We booked two inter-connecting rooms so we have more room as the family suites worked out a bit expensive. Also RCL's Independence of the Seas will be just refurbished for the start of this cruise.

Personally I didn’t find RC rooms much smaller but think even if dcl you would need two rooms

Just to add we haven't found RC rooms to be smaller than DCL. We managed just fine with 2 children, not sure how that would work with teens but I doubt you will be in the room a lot anyway.

We have also just booked a mini cruise from uk on 25 August. Now thinking of whether to get a drinks package. It is quoting about £55 per person per day at present which seems quite high. Not sure if that includes a discount as there is an offer on at the moment. We have wanted to try a Royal Caribbean cruise for a while so thought this a good opportunity, though did a Disney cruise about 10 years ago which we enjoyed.

Is that the independence?

Quite interested in trying it as being upgraded
