I have stayed in many villas over the years...some better than others. But they have all had very well eqipt kitchens. So much so..that after our first Florida experience, i had to have a mahoosive fridge freezer that made ice and chilled water.

They seldom drink instant always real coffee made in a coffee maker.

They do have hob kettles and presumably they use them for instant coffee. We have american friends who love tea especially since we bought them an electric kettle and teapot.

even so, the kettle thing is odd! and i wouldn't mind but they sell big enough jars of instant and you need a kettle for other things, its not just boiling water for coffee. those little kettles are a nightmare. have had the stove top ones as well, marginally better but its like going back to the dark ages! i always struggle with the ovens too, broiling... sigh. mind you, only tend to make a few batches of cookies from dough.

Electric kettles are not as widely used in the US as they are in the UK. Owners are forever having to replace electric kettles that have been ruined when they were heated on the hob by the uninitiated.

Most of our guests are from the UK so ours has survived so far

For Broiling insert Grill as you know it in the UK, if you have been broiling when making cookies you have been grilling them not baking them.

Would you believe my cousins's wife is from London but after living in the US for 20 years managed to put our electric kettle in Florida on the gas burner!

No one has mentioned the fact that electric kettles don't work very fast in the US due to the 110 voltage. They take so long you might as well use a stove top one. Until recently they also were relatively expensive. I have never seen these small white ones mentioned but they sound like travel ones just for British tourists.

For everyone who thinks Americans are strange for not having electric kettles, most Americans would find the lack of an automatic coffee maker in every house here strange. You would rarely be served instant as a guest in someone's house there.
