HEY MICKEY YOU'RE SO FINE,YOU'RE SO FINE YOU BLOW MY..MONEY. MAY 2019 Day 3 TOY STORY EMM!

HEY MICKEY YOU'RE SO FINE,YOU'RE SO FINE YOU BLOW MY..MONEY. MAY 2019 DAY 3 TOY STORY EXTRA MORNING MAGIC, TARGET, CHEF MICKEY'S

INDEX

So the normal situation of waking up early. This time it didn't matter as much as we had to be up early anyway as we had a special event to attend this morning. More on that in a moment.

Evie had woken up in a terrible mood. Normally this stems from clothing choices and this was no exception. We made a big point of letting her choose her clothes before the holiday to avoid these situations. She even put the clothes aside before bed. She obviously woke up and changed her mind. She was being so loud. I think Kelly was close to breaking point. The poor people in the room must have hated us. Eventually she calmed down but it was not a good start to the day.

Once sorted we headed to the car about 6.45am. It was extra early as we were doing the Toy Story Extra Morning Magic. This a special ticketed event were the park opens at 7.30am to give us early entry to Toy Story Land. Included in the price was breakfast. This was quite an expensive extra but I was really hoping it would be worth while.

It was a very quiet drive over to Hollywood Studios after Evie's tantrum. The drive wass very easy though from French Quarter. Once we drove in we noticed how different the entrance was from our last visit after Disney had just just re done all the roads and car park entrance. We use the disabled parking so we were very close to the front.

We went through bag check which in its familiar place. I say this now as this changed to a newly built bag check area when we visited later on in the holiday. The bag check was very quick and friendly. Once done we walked to the entrance and i was immediatley surprised to see how busy it was. The Toy Story Extra Morning Magic only has a limited number.

We checked in near the Magic Band Scanners and were given a wristband to identfy us. We were told breakfast would be at the Backlot Express. (I tried to supress a smug grin. Breakfast was supposed to be at the ABC Commissary but I knew it was having a refurb and would be closed. When I emailed Disney they said they knew nothing about any refurb. Its official I know too much Disney stuff.) Anyway she said breakfast was from 7.30am until 10am. Personally I think you'd be mad to go to breakfast first as you'd be wasting valuable time in Toy Story Land.

We entered the park and could see a big crowd waiting by the old Great Movie Ride being held back by a rope. I was a little disappointed in that as I had hopes of this being really quiet but that didnt appear to be the case. Evie at this point had thawed a bit and seemed happier now which was good. After what seemed forever but was probably only a few minutes the rope dropped and we were carefully escorted to Toy Story Land. It was a pretty big crowd and everyone seemed to be heading to the same place which was Slinky Dog.

As we walked there I was impressed with the theming but could see why people had issues with shade as there appeared to be very little.

We joined the queue for Slinky Dog which I thought would be walk on. It took about 10 minutes which isn't a lot compared with the normal lines.

In retrospect, later on in the holiday we did a fastpass which was quicker than any of the riders we did in the Extra Morning Magic. Once we got on the ride we all loved it. It was a really fun ride. I would say for the girls only Everest and Flights Of Passage top it.

I loved how you could see Galaxies Edge from the ride. There still looks like there is loads to do. Once we got off we joined the slightly bigger queue to ride it again. We switched round who rode with who. After this ride we did it once more. So 40 minutes in we had ridden Slinky Dog three times. To be honest I expected to have done more.

We then headed towards Alien Saucer Swirl. On the way the way the seeds of a bigger argument were sown. I was trying to maximise our time but Kelly was stopping for a lot of photos as she wanted to maximise the opportunity for photos in a less crowded Toy Story Land. The queue again was annoyingly bigger than I thought. The ride itself was ok but we all decided we wouldn't do it again.

I marched us over to Toy Story Mania and we walked straight on which was good. This is how I anticipated things going. Needless to say I won easily. Needless to say Evie and Lily kicked off about scores. Lily puts up a lot with Evie but this is one area she needs to be a little more tactful in these situations as Evie can't see anything in the game.

Once done we had half an hour left and the girls were desperate to go on Slinky Dog again. We hotstepped over but then an argument took place. I could hear Lily and Kelly arguing. Kelly wanted photos while the area was quiet. We wanted to do them later. Queue argument. I honestly could see her view as Kelly loves a photo, but I thought I'd paid a lot to get in to go the rides and we could do them later. She didn't speak to any of us in the queue for Slinky Dog or on the ride itself. We did do a few photos after and the argument fizzled out.

By this time the event was finishing and we headed out. Just as we did the crowds flowed into the area. We fighting to get out against a hoard from The Walking Dead. We made it out checking for bite marks but we were all good.

Next to breakfast. It was a 10 minute walk over to the Backlot Express. We noticed how the weather didn't look too promising.

We timed it perfectly as it was quiet inside but several minutes after we had sat down it got very busy.

You chose a main breakfast from the counter q/s style but there was also buffet offerings as well.

The choice was quite an odd selection and I was a little worried we’d all find something.

Lily went for the kids scrambled eggs and sweet potato tots which she enjoyed.

The rest of us went for fried chicken and donuts with sweet potato tots. I was unsure what this would be like but it was lovely and we all enjoyed it. It had maple syrup on the dish as well.

The buffet included cereals, pastries, fruits, yoghurts and a selection of drinks. It was all good.

We all enjoyed this and were surprised how much so.

So was the Toy Story Extra Morning Magic worth it? It cost $79 per adult so it was expensive. But we did enjoy it and have lots of positive memories. If they do a similar one for Star Wars and it cost more I’d do it

I had planned this pretty well in that our first fastpass was Star Tours next door. Kelly was opting out of this one as it makes her feel sick. We walked on but it was a waste of a fastpass. We joined the standby line where the standby line finished. The ride itself was good. I'm a massive Star Wars fan and was pleased to get a scene from The Last Jedi even though the film sucked.

We also saw a few Star Wars characters as we walked along.

We now headed towards Rock N Roll Rollercoaster. I was being sneaky. Kelly didn't want to go on Star Tours so when I booked the fastpasses I made a fastpass for her on RNR and I planned to use her Magic Band. I felt like a criminal as I went through the scanners. The bit in the studio with Aerosmith still makes me die inside a little. Its so cringey. Its horrible. The ride itself was good and I was glad that I didn't let Lily go on as I think she woiuld have hated it.

The girls had been in the shops while I was on the ride and I was greeted with tales about Evie's stroppy attitude which was frustrating. There was definitely rain in the air so we headed into the Little Mermaid show. I asked Evie if she wanted me to ask about getting us to the front which she declined. I got us to the front anyway and she moaned about not being central enough! We enjoyed the show but it look really dated. Kelly didn't think the Ariel was very good but without taking away MKingdon's thunder(what happened to him?)I thought she was outstanding.

When we came out it was raining pretty heavily which was annoying. We had a little wait for our next fastpass so we decided to brave the rain to head into some shops. Kelly on day one had bought a Magic Keeper for her Magic band. Basically this is something you can attach to a lanyard so you don't wear on your wrist. Evie wanted one as well so we had a search for one of those. I decided to change my Magic Band and bought a Star Wars one. I switched it over via the MDE app which was fairly straightforward.

It was now time for our Tower Of Terror FP. Evie disappointingly din't want to ride which was a shame. She won't say why but I'm pretty sure she doesn't like the enclosed aspect and the dark. She wouldn't even pose for a photo outside.

I thought Lily could go twice, once with me and then again with Kelly but Kelly didn't want to. So we me and Lily took their bands so we could ride twice. Criminals part 2. The standby line was huge due to one shaft being refurbed. We got into the room with the video fairly quickly though. It was slow getting on from here and took 20 minutes. The CM's were really good, playing their parts superbly. Lily had a change of heart just as we got on cried to get off. My hear broke in two as I called for the CM to let us off. She promptly changed her mind again so we were good to go! She loved it so went back on using Kelly and Evie's magic bands. Naughty!

We arrived back to Kelly and Evie 40 minutes after leaving them. Kelly said Evie hadn't said a word and was sulking about clothes. The weather looked awful so we decided to call it quits for the day and go to Target. This place Kelly and Lily love and we were hoping to find some clothes that Evie might like to stop any further arguments. As we left i popped into the toilets where I witnessed a big ol'boy american go up to a toilet attendant and say to him "there's some mess on the floor in there, go in and do your damn job!" It was quite shocking to be honest. I felt for the attendant but held my tongue as I didn't want to go get involved with someone who might have been Charlton Heston's NRA right hand man.

Our decision to leave was correct as we drove out it rained like I've never seen rain in Florida. Not ideal when your on a big road like the 192! It was pretty scary stuff.

We were heading to the Target at Rolling oaks just round the corner from where we'd be staying later in the holiday. As specified I hate shopping so this was a pretty long hour for me. I did pick up a couple of t-shirts and some shorts as I was bit optimistic with my pre-hoilday diet so felt a bit light on clothes. Evie did by some clothes as did Kelly. Lily bought some toys and a collection of lip balms which she always buys for some reason. All three bought trading pins and lanyards as well.

It was still raining as we left and this I think was the worst day of weather I'd seen in Florida. I was a little concerned for the rest of the holiday but I needn't have worried as this was the last rain we saw all holiday!

We drove back to French Quarter stopping for a quick drink and some fries in the food court. We headed back to the room, there was a small break in the weather so we had a quick swim. The bad weather gave us a chance to sort out our clothes for Universal. We planned on taking a mine and Kelly's wheelie hand luggage cases and leaving our big cases in the car while we stayed at Universal. Now was a good chance to sort that. I realised I had been far more optimistic with my clothes than I thought. I wished I'd got more in Target. As you can I see I'm a real designer label man.

We then got washed and dressed to head to the Contempoary Resort for our adr at Chef Mickey's. This wasn't until 8pm but I really wanted to have a look around at this resort as we've only been through it on the monorail. We valet parked(this is free with Evie's parking permit). We had a look around the resort especially outside by the pool and boat dock. I loved it! I think my favourite Monorail resort. Really different and interesting.

The girls and Kelly of course had a good look in the shops buying some more trading pins and doing some trading.

Now time for dinner. This was pretty much the only character meal we had never done. We had it booked several times before and always cancelled for one reason or another. The girls were really looking forward to it. We checked in about 7.45pm for our 7.55pm adr. We had a picture taken and waited until about 8pm to be called. First impressions where that this is definitely the most child oriented character meal. Very busy, very loud but we were all good with that so be warned if your not

Our server came along and took drink orders and explained who we’d be seeing at that Goofy was due to come in a minute. We waited and saw Goofy before going up to the buffet. I was pleased that Evie was playing ball this evening.

We were soon up at the buffet. Loads of great choice, breads(an amazing white roll with a salt top was my favourite) salads, shrimp, carving station, pasta, mash, sweet and sour chicken, butter chicken, pot stickers, veggies, kids station etc. The list is endless. Again excuse the photos as Buffets are hard to do.

It was all really good and we all over indulged. Personal highlight for me was the beef from the carving station.

Note the compartment plates for kids. I should have used it

In between plates, we had fresh drinks brought round and more character meets with Pluto, Donald and Minnie. Our two are awful and never say anything which is awkward!

Onto desserts. A lovely selection of desserts ranging from Ice cream station, Cookies, brownies, macaroons, cannolis, cakes etc. All really good but I didn’t eat loads as I was stuffed!

We seemed to miss Mickey but we told someone and saw him when we left.

Overall a very positive experience. Good service as well. Noisy and busy and not for everyone but we loved it.

4 t/s credits used

Once done the girls looked in the shops again and I headed next door to the Contempo Cafe.

I was desperate to try a Peanut Butter Pie from here that I’d seen before. I grabbed one to go. They have a lovely selection of cakes.

I didn't eat it until the next day. It was very hard to eat and a bit disappointing.

We collected the car from the Valet. The fireworks were on and it was a fantastic spot to see them without the projections though.

We missed any traffic and were back at our resort in no time. It was an odd day. Lots of ups and downs but mainly ups!

Thanks for reading

George

Thanks for the new post 😊 Do you think the Hollywood extra morning hours were worth the cost?

I meant to post that so will re edit. The consensus from the family was yes but they weren’t the ones paying It was busier than I expected and I expected to do more but we enjoyed it and the breakfast was good.

It's such a shame that the EMM was so busy as all the earlier reviews seemed to have far fewer people there. You still managed to get a good amount done though.

We did Chef Mickeys on our last trip and really enjoyed it too. We had been put off by some of the bad reviews but found it good.

Yes. I read loads of reviews of people were just walking on to anything they wanted. Never mind though we still got enough done and we enjoyed it. We were surprised by chef Mickey's. It was busy and loud but we did really enjoy it

I’m sure we all like to gloss over family spats on holiday but they happen. I salute your warts and all approach. I think one time at Epcot I had to walk away with steam coming out of my ears over the kids arguing! That was when they were sulky teens. No tantrums expected next year (cough!&#128563

It's something I've always been honest about in all my reports. The older the girls get the more they argue!
