Question for experienced Ebayers
I'e advertised my old horse trailer for sale on Ebay and have just had a bid.
I notice the bidder is brand new on Ebay and this always makes me suspicious Bearing in mind he has to come and collect it if he wins the bidding, is there anything I should be wary of? Should I insist on payment through Paypal or insist on cash? thanks |

Ebay is funny for stuff like that.
Just make sure when he does come and collect that you are not alone. And if he does pay in cash that you check every single note before you hand over the item. Sometimes this is why paypal is better, but of course you will have to pay the charges that comes with paypal

The very last thing you should be doing on a collection only item is accept Paypal.
Chummy arrives, looks it over, says it's great, transfers you the money on Paypal and drives off in to the sunset. A day later you get an "Item not received" or "unauthorised use" claim. You can't defend it as you have no proof of despatch or delivery. You will 100% lose your trailer and money. Speaking as a seller with over 100,000 feedback on there. |

You just can't beat cash but checking carefully for fakes - go buy a pen.
Bank transfer is good but be careful they don't pull the con where they ask you for your bank details, tell you it's paid, you check and see the deposit and release the goods. Except they've paid you from a stolen cheque book in the hope you don't notice it's not a cash deposit. |

Oh yes - i've had all the scams. All of them.
You're opening yourself up for all sorts of problems sadly. We all started on zero feedback but go with your gut feeling. To be honest i'd never use Ebay for collection only because of the scams: community.ebay/t5/Arch...m/td-p/1232901 |

I sell a lot on ebay and via gumtree.
If they pay cash on collection ebay will just charge your final selling fee based on item being sold at the amount it was sold at so if you sell an item for £100 they will take their % say £10 plus your charity donation of say £10 and bill you for £20 on your invoice date at the end of the month and take it from your paypal. If the person doesnt turn up and pay you then have to open up a claim in order to get it refunded I prefer cash on collection if they are collecting as you have no proof they have had the item and as pp said they can then reverse the paypal.
