I have sorted out the insurance for my 80 year old Dad who has various conditions including cancer. I was amazed by the variation. In the end we used Able2Travel and he's used them a couple of times since.

Thanks Sue, checked Able2Travel, they too limit hubs age to 45 days, we need 180. Only a handful offer long stay senior cover.

Just Travel Cover [incl pre-existing] is £284 for me, £832 for hubs. Ironically a couples policy is £2k more! We buy individual policies and the underwriters link as travelling companions free of charge.

We have gone with Avanti this year, as they offered the best cover for the best price ... there were cheaper polices (some half the price) but they didn't have much medical, cancellation or end supplier failure cover.

I wish the travel insurance industry would simplify the polices so it was easier to compare them, I seem to spends hours every year reading the small print to check whats covered / excluded but due to my husbands condition I never want to have to worry if he needs medical assistance.

In general I look for good medical cover, good cancellation cover including hurricanes and end supplier cover (if we are not booking a package holiday).

Hope this helps.
