Pinning for the Fjords - Day 0 Travel Day

So whilst a number of you were heading to Blackpool for the Grand Day Out, we were going to Copenhagen.

Luckily we live in North west London so any trip via Heathrow is reasonably easy. Bags had been packed the night before so we even had a slight lie in, before Celia had to quickly pop up to get her nails done at 9am. Once she had returned we had a quick last check of the house, and got the bags into the car for the 30 min drive to Heathrow.

The Car was parked in the long stay car park for Terminal 5 and we jumped on the bus to the Terminal, just as Celia remembered that she had left her umbrella in the car.

Lunch was at Gordon Ramsey's Plane Food. I had the Braised Lamb which was great, Celia had gone for the Caesar salad but asked to hold the Croutons and cheese as she is intolerant to both Wheat and Lactose, more of that on the cruise itself. but when it arrived it was covered in cheese, but that had remembered to put the dressing on the side. So we then had to wait for another one to be prepared. But after the experience we will be back at Wagamama next time we go through T5.

We had booked Club Europe for the flight using our Avios points so after lunch we headed into the Lounge for a hour plus wait for our flight which had been delayed. The lounge was heaving and we just managed to find somewhere to sit together but the time past and it was finally time to head for the flight, as we were leaving we noticed Gary Lineker also waiting in the lounge but decided not to interrupt him and needed to get to the flight so no picture.

Flight was a quick up and down, I have a little 8" tablet which makes a great seat back TV for these flights, so I rewatched the Rutles.

Copenhagen airport is large and it seem to take ages to walk through from the gate to the train station. At the station there are ticket machines that have an English setting so 2 tickets to Central Copenhagen were purchased and we found the platform into town, rather than the one that goes to Malmo. The train was a stopping train, but we did notice that as well as the Central Station it also stopped at Norreport, which looking at the free map we also picked up on the train seemed to be slightly closer to the hotel and definitely the easier walk. Slight issue was that Norreport only had a small lift back to the street level, so I had to carry our bags up 2 flights of stairs.

Our hotel for that night was SP34 a little boutique hotel made of 3 old builds that are at slightly different levels so we had to use the correct lift that was only just large enough for the 2 of us and the 2 pieces of luggage. We did also have some trouble finding our room as the numbers were on lights rather than the actual door.

After finding our room and leaving our bags we then had a couple of hours till our dinner reservation so had time for a nice walk down to Stroget (the main shopping/walking street) and around the central parts of Copenhagen.

We still arrived at BROR about 30 mins early but the seater was able to seat us straight away and the quirky meal was ready to begin.

First was a selection of "snacks" I went for the Bull Balls.

Dinner at Bror - Ox Balls

whilst celia had the slightly more normal Lambs liver.

Dinner at Bror - Lamb Liver

we did avoid the Fish head which just looked blurgh but from the others in the restaurant must have tasted better than it looked.

After the snacks we were on to the menu. BROR simply has a single menu each night, but they did modify some of the dishes to accommodate Celia's dietary requirements.

Pickled Mackerel

Beef Heart

Hake

Desserts

The meal was great but it had still been a long day and the excitement for tomorrow was building so we headed back to the hotel and slept.

Off to read the next instalment!

Is that a famous restaurant? Not quite as 'safe' as a McDonalds!

Noma is one of the top restaurants in the world, and we have not even been in a McD's in 10 years.

Wow, that menu looks interesting! Great first day.

We've had a couple of decent meals at Gordon Ramsey Plane Food, but recently it was being refurbed and we ended up in Huxley's. Very nice food there, and extremely friendly service!
