Steakland was really nice just make sure to go early if you want lunch specials which is considerably less than dinner but it gets busy so go around 11 if you want the specials as big line up we missed Lunch last time as dinner menu starts around 3 very early. It cost around $100 for 3 of us very reasonable my daughter didnt want to go.Dinner was more than double the price .We had the best set which included a salad and dessert and coffee.Have not been to train musuem but hear its nice my sons school is near by so i will probably go at some point .There are 2 steaklands we went to the one in the alley you go in an elevator upstairs .

The trains on the disney line are fab.

We were there a full week so got octopus cards which were great. You pay a deposit of 50HKD but get 41 back when you return the card.
Thanks, I think Yau Ma Tei is the nearest station to our hotel :-)

HK is really fantastic, everything is so foreign yet so fimiliar due to the British colonial past. The metro is incredibly simple and we found practically no language barriers at all.
Yes I would have loved to see the cherry blossom too, but we are not going in the right season either. Yes I think Hong Kong will be fine, just a bit worried about Japan out of Tokyo, but I'm sure we will be fine with Google translate :-)

Fabulous! We will have done all the Disney parks except Shanghai after this trip but not in a year!

Not soon but we are planning to go back to Japan for my 40th next August. We travel with kids so tend to stick with a couple of bases and explore from there.

We visited Kobe steakland - same one as pp in the alley with the lift. We were queuing outside of the other one and they took us around the corner as it was quieter. We went for lunch as it was way cheaper and really enjoyed it. I was doing a live TR on another board for our 2014 trip but fell behind and never finished it. I did enjoy going back and re-reading it recently as you forget what you did.

The food is just amazing in Japan in general. I miss decent ramen, takoyaki, okonomiyaki and of course the sushi - man I'm drooling at the thought. We went to one place in Kyoto (Kuro) that only served intestine stew. I wanted to leave but DH persuaded me to try it and it was amazing. We went back last year and they had changed the menu (there must have been a few gajin appalled at the idea of intestines lol) and were really surprised that we ordered the intestine stew.

We also went to a shabu shabu place in Shinjuku called Nabezo. Go for lunch - it's all you can eat, and another fantastic dish.

During our past visits we have stayed in hotels but we are thinking of renting an apartment next time. We haven't visited universal Japan yet so will probably have a visit there.

Don't worry about Japan outside of Tokyo - a lot of the Japanese speak English but they don't like to show weakness - if you start the conversation with a "sumimasen" then you have shown the weakness first and they tend to be happy to speak to you in English then. Most signs are in English and we found everyone we met to be very polite and helpful. We visited the same places as you and the language barrier was never an issue.

We found it useful to hire a portable wi-fi device. We used global advanced and it was useful for google maps etc. Google translate can read signs for you too which is useful. Just relax and enjoy

All sounds great. I'm really looking forward to trying all the lovely food - thanks for the restaurant recommendation - we are staying in Shinjuku so that is really useful :-).
