Ellen's Energy Adventure and Great Movie Ride- Closing August 13!

As we are all waking up to the exciting news from D23 of new attractions for several Walt Disney World parks, it is with sadness that we are saying goodbye to Ellen and The Great Movie Ride!

Per WESH news, both rides will be closing on August 13 2017 to make way for the widely rumoured Guardians of the Galaxy ride and a new Mickey and Minnie themed runaway railway!

Personally, I'm a little gutted as these rides are truly nostalgic but I understand the need to freshen up! Just glad I get to ride one last time!

Thoughts?

Ah, that's a shame! I've such nostalgic memories of the GMR and was looking forward to it in late August. Plus with another closure in HS there isn't a hell of a lot left to ride!

I am seriously beginning to question whether we even bother with DHS, there's hardly anything left to do there!

We like both these attractions. When we were at wdw last summer it was announced great movie ride would be closing so we grabbed the chance to ride multiple times. I think it is the essence of what mgm and now DHS is all about so it's a shame there is no celebration of movies now. I know my DD, who is 10 and hasn't ever seen the aliens movies, will not miss the alien dropping from the ceiling, she swears she is scarred for life from that.

Hopefully the new attractions will be amazing and we won't be lamenting the passing of these attractions. I loved the maelstrom ride, but the frozen upgrade is pretty awesome too... plus it's another reason to go back isn't it? You can never say you've done everything!

I liked GMR and am sad to see it go. It is just ridiculous that they are closing another attraction in HS before getting the other stuff ready. Why couldn't they have waited a year until toy story land opens.

Ellen doesn't bother me one bit but GMR saddens me slightly as I wouldn't have minded riding that on our trip

think the end result is going to be amazing but its shame more closures. I just hope that them saying Mission space opening next month is true.

So for over a year has HS actually only got 4 rides with anything else being a show which stops by 6pm.

All for updating parks but Disney need to increase their build speed at least fourfold. The new Epcot attractions are talking about being completed by 2021 that is 4 years!
