BA/Avis - credit card hold?

Quick question - we have booked and paid for a fly drive with BA. I have a credit card but only with a small limit (£500) as we tend to use what cash we have in savings for emergencies etc rather than credit cards. Will Avis put a hold on the cc when we pick the car up, and if so, will £500 be enough? I can request an increase if need be but would prefer not to if possible.

I don't recall it putting one on mine. I would ring BA and ask if they do.

Hi, I've booked a few times with BA/Avis and can't remember giving them the card details at car hire desk! I expect I did as paid for fuel. We now have joined Avis Prefered and they have my DC details on my account but only for fuel, tolls ect they haven't put a hold on the card in the past, maybe worth you doing this and then you can bypass the desk and go straight to the garage.

Oh yes as ayles 300 has said, join Avis preferred on line, then ring and link your BA Avis booking and you can direct to the garage- your name will be the board with your car allocation.

I have called ba today to give them my Avis preferred membership number

Do I need to call Avis as well to link the 2 together?

I called Avis with the BA car hire voucher number and they linked the booking. It's now showing on my Avis preferred account.
They also told me the only deposit they'll take is for a full tank of fuel.
