Sixt holding deposit

This year due to raising car hire costs, ive booked with Sixt instead of the usual Alamo.

I am reading the terms etc and it states that they take a holding charge on your credit card of upto 3 times the rental cost. That's going to be nearly £1000.

Has anyone rented from Sixt recently and confirm if this is correct as normally the holding charge with Alamo is like £500.

No holding charge with Alamo albeit a few people have had a $200 hold. I never have anything.
SixT do tend to place a huge hold on cards. But again it does vary from what I have noticed on here.

I don't really see the problem with large holds on credit cards - that's the point of them - to be useful they should have a credit limit larger than you need to spend - then holds etc. are meaningless as they have no impact on you.

We took out a second clarity card (in my name - main one in OH name) with a deliberately low-ish (£6K) credit limit so we can use it for things like this without it affecting our everyday cards

If you call your credit card company they will more than likely be able to increase your limit for the holiday to cover the hold from the hire car company.

You can then lower it after as they never normally take it off in the hope you use it regularly.

This is IF you have an average to good credit rating. Worth a try though.
