Switzerland Summer 2020 - Day 11 - Goli Des Otanes

We woke to sunshine though rain was forecast later in the day.

We decided that we would do a hike the other side of the valley. J found one that wasn't too long nor too much of a climb.

Breakfast was had, a picnic was made and we all got ourselves ready to go!

At the car park near the chalet is this sign - I b liked the “Say Hi” comment. Actually most people do (though in which language is smoother thing! )

Although not that far as the crow flies it took about 40 minutes and a lot of hairpin bends on a mainly one lane track to get to where we wanted to be.

As usual, on the climb up there was spectacular scenery and we only saw two people.

You can see the hamlet where we are staying in there distance. We could roughly work out where our chalet was!

We took a break after about an hour to have water. June took the opportunity for a sit down. She does about twice the distance as she is always running off exploring everywhere!

More scenery

Nearly there! We were aiming for a lake!

We saw some marmots in the distance (you hear them before you see them!) but thankfully June didn't see them to chase!

The lake was really clear!

And June enjoyed having a swim!

All wet and cooler!

After about 20 minutes at the lake we made our way back the same way we had come.

I was still the slowest! The kids were way ahead!

And June kept on checking on everyone!

The walk with the breaks took us about 3 hours, it was about 200m of vertical height and 6km. It was acc really nice hike- not many people and glorious scenery.

We had our picnic back at the car (just sandwiches) and then made our way back to the chalet!

June was tired but found a very strange place to sleep! Silly dog!

O went to study for his exam and the rest of us just rested up for about 90 minutes.

The three of us without an exam plus June drove to Verbier. F tried on summer winter coats but even in the sales they were more than 500 euros so it was a no! We did get O as magnet though and some croissants for his early breakfast tomorrow.

We also stopped for a drink. J has a beer, F had hit chocolate and I had a freshly squeezed lemon juice which was very bitter but refreshing too.

Just as we were nearing the car the heavens opened and we made a dash for it. We didn't get too wet!

We had veggie burgers and oven chips for dinner and then played the usual games. The kids are loving the board games - especially Boogle!

J took June out in the rain for her evening walk and we were all in bed by about 9pm. I think I fell asleep about 10ish!

I am completely in love with June, she’s so cute sleeping on the stairs 😂

The scenery is beautiful again, and the lake is so clear. How lovely to have all that space with hardly anyone around.

Love the sign with instructions to be cool and say hi. We usually say Gruss Gott when we pass folk.

Such fabulous scenery - a real holiday to get away from it all! I think i’d need to invest in hiking/walking sticks if I went (dodgy knees!). I just adore June - so amazing how dogs have such stamina!

The morning hike looks lovely, the water in the lake is so clear. Loving the relaxing scenic photos, they’re really brightening my lockdown days, pre and post work.
