Getting home from Germany

I've been in Germany for a few weeks with my car. I'm coming home next weekend. Now that France, Belgium and Holland have been taken off the list I thought I would have to self isolate.

Reading the rules last night you don't have to self isolate if you are transiting through a country and have no interactions. I can do this. I just won't stop.

So I thought perhaps I could use the Chunnel. I've never been on it before. Can I remain in my car during the crossing? Think if I took a ferry I would have to self isolate as I'd have to get out for car for the crossing.

Any thoughts about my plan appreciated.

You can get a ferry from Denmark direct to Immingham if that's an option available to you. No quarantine required.

I think you stay in your vehicle if you use the channel tunnel

Providing you don't get out anywhere in a listed country and stay in your car on the train, you will not have to quarantine.

You can go through the Chunnel without getting out, as ticket checking and passport control are done through the window and you stay in your vehicle during the journey. You’d only get out if you wanted to use the terminal facilities - shops, restaurants, loos. It’s a fantastic way to travel.

Don't forget to have enough fuel before entering France as stopping to fill up means quarantine.

Out of curiosity, does this whole system rely on the passenger being honest? What's to stop somebody who has been in France or Holland just claiming to the border force agent that they have been in Germany and driven straight through?

Think not getting out anywhere would cover that.

I'd be more worried about needing to stop for a pee
