If you do go, have a look at the Blue Dolphin cafe on John Ringling Boulevard for breakfast.

We are hoping to go here and see manatees that are being rehabilitated, about 80 minutes away from Orlando: https://www.floridastateparks.org/pa...ife-state-park

We were told that there are unlikely to be any manatees at Crystal River after March and then they come back mid-November, at https://www.floridastateparks.org/pa...ife-state-park they are in a sanctuary being cared for.

Can anyone confirm our understanding please?

Sort of.

We visited Crystal River in April of 2022.
Here is the link to the trip report. It is at post #231 and includes plenty of photos.

Around 800 migrate into a small, shallow lagoon called Three Sisters Springs. They winter from December and depart in March. You will not see these migratories unless you are there between those months.

There is however a further 60 or so that are Resident and these are present, year round.

oh well it was worth a thought, so it’s still a possibility but just less likely to see?

You will see Manatees and whilst we did it from Kayaks, it is also done from Boats.

Whilst it was great, I am not certain that I would go that far in your individual circumstances.

What time of year are you going and do you have a car? From November to April 15th you can go to the Tampa bay electric observation area which is a nice trip and you can see up to hundreds there in the season. I have seen them and dolphins at Bairs cove which is near Kennedy Space centre. I have also see them at Homosassa Springs but that may be too far. There is Blue Spring state park but again best in the winter as they come inland to the regulated water temperature of the springs.

three weeks in sept/oct, and theres no way we would go without a car

Mote Marine Laboratory is the frontrunner. only issue it being over 2 hours each way, but we've done sarasota before, just not with a small child...
