Yes, the defence is short of at least 2 top class players but with the midfield and forward players we have, we could outscore most teams if the manager let the team play that way.
The thing with defending is you don’t necessarily need the best defenders. You need a consistent back 5 who gel together, be organised and each player in the team from front to back must know their role when out of position.

Trouble is, we don’t have a consistent 5, we’re not organised and not everyone in the team takes defending seriously, all of which is down to the manager.

Look at City and Arsenal, both defend from the front.

Or the famous Arsenal back 5 in the 80s/90s. Not necessarily the best individual players but so well drilled they became almost impregnable.

Yes…England can certainly win with Southgate. But whatever manager we have it’s going to be hard. There are a lot of very good teams out there and most of our players are knackered from another packed season.

IMO 👍

No need to worry about the Iceland game, whether we win the tournament or lose every group game, it will have not have been the result of us losing in a friendly when every England player was just hoping not to get injured.

The only point of friendlies like this is to make the FA more money, Southgate, injuries permitting, will know his starting line up & all the players know it, there was nothing for them to play for.

No. Was going to leave it at just that but it won’t allow me to post that short an answer.
But we’ll still be home before you.
