Highway in the Sky Dine Around
We did the Highway in the Sky Dine Around on our recent trip, for those who don't know, it's an adult progressive dining event around the monorail resorts. We booked it on MDE a couple of months beforehand and it has to be paid on booking. It lasts approx 3.5 hours and costs $170 + tax pp (this includes gratuities). It was a really fun and delicious night, and we would highly recommend it.
The evening started at the Contemporary resort, we arrived at a signposted podium outside of The Wave restaurant, were given lanyards to wear, met our hostesses who stayed with the group all night and were taken to a private lounge area to meet the rest of the guests. There were 20 people and we were encouraged to chat and get to know each other. We were given with a Bay Lake cocktail, delicious and very strong, and a hotel manager welcomed us and gave a short talk about the resort - the room we were in was the one that President Nixon gave his 'I'm not a crook' speech from. Next, a chef came out and told us about the appetiser that we had next - Tomato Bisque and a small Toasted Cheese, which was lovely. We were taken to the monorail where there were 2 private carriages, so no queuing, and our next stop was the Polynesian Resort where we were greeted with Leis and taken to Trader Sam's for a Mai Tai and 3 Amuse Bouches - Sushi, Beets and Belly Pork, and again, as at each stop, a chef explained the food. By this time conversation was flowing and we spent most of the evening with a couple from Michigan and a lovely family from Texas. We were ready to head to our third stop, the Grand Floridian resort, to a lounge near to Mizner's where we enjoyed a glass of champagne and a Cheese and Charcuterie plate (between each couple) while we listened to the band and chatted, then went into Citrico's - where we had 2 large round tables - for a bread service and entree which was Surf and Turf, haddock with green beans and beef with a red wine reduction served on mashed potato and accompanied by either red or white wine. The general atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. For our final stop we went back to the Contemporary, to a cordoned off viewing area on the 4th floor, directly under the monorail where there were small desserts, boxed handmade truffles, soft and hot drinks and a barman serving Amarula, Baileys and Frangelico in any mixture requested - these were unlimited, and we watched Hallowishes whilst we enjoyed them. We both loved the whole evening, service and company were great, and would really recommend it for a treat.
