Sarasota love bugs swarm!
So, we drove the 2 hours to Sarasota for the first time yesterday. It was awful - we stayed at the beach all of 2 minutes because of the love bugs, they literally were all over the place! My 12 year old son has a bad issue with flies (my fault as I am the same, years of watching me freak out over them has rubbed off on him ). He was flapping about and freaking out so much we just got bk in the car and drove back to the villa. Me on the other hand was laughing so much at my distraught son, my fly fear was hardly there (I know I'm bad but couldn't help but laugh at him). I just wonder how on earth people can put up with these things being so in your face and enjoy a day at the beach? I would have found it impossible :/

This is one of the main reasons I never visit Orlando in May or September. They would drive me mad.

We suffered with these at Destin on a September visit. We managed but did feel like we were constantly swatting them away. Its a shame when you have made the journey that you were not able to enjoy.

Excited about Disney

We arrived home this morning from a 12 day stay in Siesta Key. They were there on the 6th and lasted until the 15th. I think they only ended because of the torrential downpour we had. (I think they must have drowned!) It was truly like a plague. Locals said it was the worst for several years. I just felt very sorry for all the couples that were trying to get married on the beach. Their photos must have been ruined.

They are only here 2 times per year,May and September, about three weeks then expire. Harmless other than too the paint and windows on your car.

We came back from Cape Coral last Monday, after we drove from Orlando to Cape Coral on May 9th you literally could not see out of the windscreen or the front of the car because of the flies. Once we got to Cape Coral there were none around.
