Mobile PPI again , is it worth a try

A colleague at work was telling me she'd got a nice sum when she did a PPI claim, and I know other people who have.
I've had several forms ,but always come unstuck as I can't remember what credit cards we've had (changed a few times for 0% interest) , and who car loans etc were with.
Is it worth completing a form an just guessing, or ticking ones are are unsure of?

Yes, it can't hurt. I just went into my bank and they gave me all the details I needed. It was over 20 years ago so I really couldn't remember any details. The PPI people followed up with a brief phone call and in the end we got over £3,000. They said their records didn't go back far enough for them to prove whether what I said was correct, so they were just giving me the standard amount they gave people!

When I sent mine off, I used the template letter from Money saving expert and just explained why I didn't need PPI at that time ( living with parents/guaranteed sick pay from work) . I just wrote that I didn't remember any card numbers, how long ago I had the card but it was registered to my address. It was a Shell visa I had had about 7/8 yrs ago.

I got a cheque five weeks later for £1600.

Did you both use a company to do a search or did they approach individual banks yourself?

If you go on the FCA website there are links that you can click on for each credit provider. I didn't know who provided the Adams card I had but I just clicked on the link and it took me to the enquiry form. I only did it the other day so not heard anything back yet but might be worth a try.

We claimed back PPI last year and it paid our florida spends. I didn't have account details or anything. Just approached the companies, explained that we'd had a loan through them and asked them to check if we had PPI. They confirmed yes and we replied that it had been mis-sold due to us not even knowing it was there. There are loads of templates online. Companies will just take a commission for something you can do yourself

Has anyone used a company to do it? It all seems a bit difficult to me but I don’t know who is good.

It really isn’t difficult. A company will take some of your money, why let them have it?

We literally walked into the bank and they gave us a printout with the relevant reference numbers, and a phone number. The form took 10 minutes if that.
