For instance being forced into accepting PPI as part of a loan or where the protection given by the PPI just wasn’t needed eg if you had a job with sickness and redundancy protection.

There is also the newer case law of Plevin, where the proportion of money kept by the company was beyond reasonable.

All this is spoken about in more detail on MSE.

People may not have a clear memory of a loan they took out several years ago. They may not have a memory of whether they had PPI.

That doesn’t mean that they should lose out on fair compensation.

It’s not a racket. It’s a reasonable thing to enquire about and claim for.
I'm not saying it wasn't mis-sold or forced into people just rhat I know some who have taken advantage of the banks just paying compensation without too many checks when they knew full well what they were buying and what it was for as well. That is probably a bigger number rhan what people expect, but we would never really know for sure.

Clydesdale? If it’s owned and operated by Barclays then it should. Best bet is to phone and ask.

HBOS have declined my claim but have appealed to the ombudsman so fingers crossed. Apparently that can take up to a year though.

It looks like my mum had PPI with Barclaycard and also PPI with Barclays (overdraft). I am not sure how much compensation she will get as she has only just been notified that she did have PPI with these products. Anyone who had PPI with either of these Companies able to share what they received by way of compensation and how long it all took?

It depends on how far back the ppi goes. I had a letter from Barclaycard this week and I have it between 2003-2008. The FCA say that interest will be paid at 8% a year from then until now on the amount paid in ppi. That’s the variable that no one will be able to answer as the companies don’t tell you that amount (you can out a sar request under GDPR which takes 30 days to find out).

Barclaycard tell me it takes 8 weeks for them to consider the complaint.

An update on mine, I enquired at a few places and it turns out I had it on a Halifax mortgage but they don’t think it was missold.

I was honest and said I have nothing to dispute it other than the terms of my employment being generous for cover, as it’s 15 years ago and can’t remember the appointment so that will be the end of it. They wanted details about the person we spoke with, physical appearance etc and I wasn’t prepared to lie when we were just enquiring initially

Edited at 05:55 PM.

Barclays told me that they found three Egg accounts for me but no details. Suggested that I put in a complaint, which I did. Then I had a letter from someone asking for details, account numbers etc. I don’t have these now as it was a quite a while ago. 😩
