Exclamation Credit card payment at petrol station

When trying to pay for fuel I was required to put in a 5 digeit zip code which we don't have in the UK , is it the same in all the gas stations here ?

I have a credit card which has a 5 digit code but that is used for online banking. Normally in only use the standard 4 digit pin when making purchases

What sort of device were you being prompted for the 5 digit code by? A standard card reader?

its at the pump, it wants to validate your zip code.

As we only have 3 digits in our postcode, you can try and 00 to the end

so if your postcode L56 7FG, enter 56700, it may work, it may not. It is hit and miss with the petrol stations.

I think you will find it is the zip code which the card is registered at which you won't have it is a UK card. Just means you can't pay at the pump but pre-pay inside at the cash desk.

Thank you. I have a distrust of using credit cards in American gas stations which I accept may be irrational

So if I want to pay cash am ibrivht in thinking I need to give the cashier a cash amount to cover the fuel I will be drawing in advance of filling up ?

It's been a long time since if have needed to do this which may explain my my apparently dumb questions

The ps4 again

Yes...that's correct.

Prepay amount to cashier, then if you end up putting in less just go back and collect your change!

Easy!
