Am I understanding Meal Plans correctly?

Say I'm staying in the Newport Bay with Half Board, this entitles me to the Plus option, which includes places like Captain Jack's (as an example).

So - per adult, the meal voucher for the plus option is €49.

Does this mean that in Captain Jack's, we could get the Seven Seas Menu (€46.99) for no extra charge, and just pay for the drink (which might just tip it over by a few cents/Euros)?

If we wanted the Captain's Menu (€55.99), we would simply present our voucher and pay €6.99 extra to cover it?

Is that how it works? Basically a gift voucher?

Finally, is it possible (and obviously not recommended) to underuse it? So for example, using the Plus €49 voucher to get the €39.99 Buccaneer's Menu?

Thanks!

where are you seeing that one plus dining voucher is worth 49 euros? Its just that thats a huge jump over the previous value of one adult plus dining voucher. Is that the cost per night maybe and does it also have the value of a breakfast voucher included in the price of 49 euros?

No. It’s not like a gift voucher. You are able to use the voucher for any of the plus restaurants and there is no extra charge.
Although you may be restricted to one of the set menus.

If you go to one of the few that aren’t on the list, eg Walt’s, you can use it as a gift voucher and pay the balance.
I think it’s worth 36Euro off your meal.

My mistake sorry - the €49 value does indeed cover breakfast, too.

With a 2-year-old in tow, I'm not sure Table Service will be a wise choice anyway! They're not included in the meal plans but the 3-year-old kids meals are more than he'd want...

Have s look at the buffets. We find them good with kids as they can pick and choose what they want.

Indeed, and with us potentially being in the Newport Bay, the Cape Cod might be a good option to still feel like we're getting value for money.

That's the issue with the Plus Meal Plan and buffets - I'd somehow feel like I wasn't getting money's worth by "only" going to Plaza Gardens or Restaurant des Stars... That must be the Yorkshireman in me, though!

I get your point. But if everyone is fed and happy then thats a better result than frustrated kids in one of the slower table service places.

Oh absolutely! It's our first Disney trip with a little one in tow, so we'll soon learn what's best!

Hunter’s Grill buffet at Sequoia Lodge is excellent. It is on the Plus plan and definitely a step up from the other buffets.

They even have a waffle and pancake station with ice cream and sauces.

Thanks for that suggestion!

I suppose we could still do one of the table service restaurants as a treat and the lad can share some of ours or we can get him a side order to munch on.

I’ve heard nice stories of staff giving 2 year olds a little plate of something if they’re not on meal plan. Fingers crossed!
