Dozens of Dibbers have reported successful renewal of ESTAs since POTUS closed the borders - including us in May. You can renew it now if you like rather than wait until your existing ones expire.
I would suggest that you don't do API until nearer the time though. Some opinions and evidence that doing API can be considered an "attempt" to fly and may result in ESTA being cancelled. Mick

Go for it! I have just booked a holiday package with flight and car for April 2021. Paid £150 deposit which can be changed to another date if needed!
I am confident the US will be open by Jan 2021. |

We got our insurance with Trailfinders and we're happy with the level of cover they offer plus deposit only for US holiday. It was £280 annual for us, a bit more than we usually pay but worth it I think.

Excited about Disney

Great to hear i'm not the only person. We have booked for Christmas because as you said its not really a risk money wise. The way i look at it we are always going to go so its just 350 towards when ever that will be.
Hope it all works out for you and i think you are far from crazy. In fact hope it all works out for everybody who has taken a punt.
