Also my boyfriend used his NatWest card on tapu pay and it worked no problem.

The banking system in America, coupled with the technology vendors, could not agree on the software for chip and pin for years, unlike the UK which is more centralised and easier to modernise.

And so with Google Wallet, Apple Pay etc the US are pretty much skipping chip n pin and going straight to wireless payment because Apple etc have provided the coding etc to enable it much quicker.

So it has been driven by technology companies and not the banks

Pay at the pump has only made "chip n pin" work due to needing more info from your card/bank which is a zip code... something not needed at our tills... as such international visitors can't use them
