Children activities in Tokyo and Shanghai

We are spending 4 days in Tokyo and 3 days in Shanghai. There are 4 of us two adults and two boys 12 and 6.
If anyone has any ideas on activities etc for children, I would love to hear them.
No need to include Disney in this.

I believe studio ghibli is popular for kids
Plus over on odiaba there is a science museum which has asimo robot demonstrations as well
There is also sunshine city area with rollercoaster sand a big Ferris wheel

As I never took kids these are the things straight off top of my head for the moment

Also a trip to the sky tree would be good as well

I can't help with Shanghai but we've done Tokyo 3 times with kids. The Ueno area is great - lots to do around the park and the zoo is really cheap to visit. The ghibli museum in mitaka is worth a look. When we went we called to Nakano on the way back into Tokyo and visited the Otaku paradise of Nakano Broadway. The boys and my DH loved it there. The ghibli museum is really unusual. If you decide to go get tickets in advance in the UK. Wandering around Harajuku and Yoyogi park are great and there are often festivals in the park on weekends and kiddyland is a fab shop in Ometesando. The skytree was great too. There's a Pokemon centre amongst other shops in the base and it has great views of the city.

We loved Tokyo as a family and can't wait to go back!

Odaiba I think is always good for kids. I'm planning my 4th trip back to Tokyo tonight for 2018. Climbing Mount Fuji this time too
