You can basically ask for food any way you like in the places we eat - mid range I suppose. Everywhere will prepare and serve your food as you wish. Fries, steaks whatever. Extra dressing on the Caesar salad. Portions to share. No ice in sodas. etc. etc.

Restaurants are there to serve their clients not the other way round - unless you're eating in Disney of course.

Only Outback seemed unable to understand "unseasoned"

As you know Outback steakhouses are franchised which means there can be no deviation from the menu items. All steaks have a season rub before grilling but when this takes place I am not sure. Salt is one ingredient in the rub but probably no more than 15% of the total.

Depending when the rub is applied it is impossible for them to serve unseasoned steak and indeed it would mean not satisfying the franchise agreement.

Nearly all USA restaurants grill steaks which have their particular seasoning rub and it's a means of giving them a unique identity.

I beg to differ... I've been to Orlando every couple of years for a long time and eaten in an Outback 3 or 4 times each visit (including Formosa). I must admit I labour the point about 'no salt, no seasoning, completely plain grilled' and possibly once or twice ever have had to send it back because they messed that up (I have an intolerance so I can't simply eat it seasoned). There is certainly no breach of franchise for serving their steaks unseasoned - while indeed it is a brand identity, it remains an option.

That's one thing I love about US restaurants - providing you are polite but firm with how you ask food to be prepared, it is invariably done that way and any errors are rectified with an apology. On the odd occasion they've told me they simply can't serve unseasoned fries as they buy them in pre-seasoned, but I've never been misled...

Our last trip Sept/October Longhorns at rolling hills was not up to its usual high standard ,infact i even said to DW we would give it a miss for the next few visits ,then on our last day we tried Longhorn on Vineland and it was excellent ,not been to Outback for a number of visits but may give it a go next month
