Pet insurance?

Hi all,

Just had my annual renewal for pet insurance and it’s gone up quite a bit.

My dog is now three and they’ve put on the letter than premiums tend to rise once a dog is over three (funny that!).

Do you guys shop around for pet insurance annually the same as car/house insurance, or do you tend to stick with the same company for pet insurance? (I think it’s the whole life cover bit that is confusing me - is there any point in taking out a whole life policy (which I have been) if I change companies each year? )

Sorry I’ve probably misunderstood how it works - I hate insurance renewal time and shopping around! Lol!

It’s only worthwhile changing if you haven’t claimed for anything. If you have claimed then that condition will not be covered on a new policy.
I think they’re all pretty much the same, hook you in with a fab price and the bump up the premiums. I have my eldest dog with Sainsbury’s as she had arthritis so if I moved that wouldn’t be covered, but I moved my other two to Morethan as their premiums went up and they had no medical problems at the time.
I have to say both company’s have paid my claims quickly and direct to the vet/ my bank account.

No we haven’t claimed - we’ve had a few small vet bills (grass seeds and spaniels don’t mix!), but have paid cash for those. Having seen my mums dog face bills of tens of thousands for hip replacements and blood transfusions, I’ve taken out insurance incase anything big comes up.

Thanks for the advice - I’ll shop around!

I've used many over the years. I've recently taken our Post Office pet insurance, which seem to have good cover at a reasonable price. They popped up on price comparison. I've taken the Lifetime Premium cover, which resets every year. The renewal price didn't increase by very much so I've stayed with them, and moved our other dog over too. Worth a look.

Interesting you say this - I am with Bought by many, and despite my premium going up quite a bit this year, they are still much cheaper than anything else I can find, so I’m staying put!

Can I ask how much people usually pay for pet insurance per month I’m looking at the moment and can’t decide what level of cover to go for?
