Random house improvements /work question

I’ve not been on for a while as my mum is seriously ill.

She’s very kindly offered to pay for us some home improvements but I’m not in the mood at all to contact builders

My mum is desperate for an estimate for our dream jobs to be completed.
Me and dh have no idea whatsoever of prices ...
Just a very rough guide would suffice at this point:

Our back door is in our utility room.
Next room along is downstairs shower/toilet.
shower/toilet room next door to our bedroom.
Our bedroom on the other side of the plaster board wall, which was a bedroom and is now an office/dumping ground!

I am waffling and not very good at explaining but I hope you get the gist-

Me and dh move into office as our bedroom.
Our bedroom becomes a bath and shower room
With sliding doors between the rokms.
Shower room becomes a toilet and vanity room.
Anew laundry room is created.
Utility room is basically turned into a porch.

Is this question how long is a piece of string?!

If possible please though-just a rough idea would be great.

Thanks dibbers. 👍🏻

It really is a piece of string question , you really need to get quotes. Size, access, materials , style, finishes, if load bearing walls are involved , the list of variables is endless.
You’ll really need to get in the mood to get people round for estimates if you want to do it.

Having had parents seriously ill, and having taken on a project house, no way could I do both at the same time however much my parents asked me to do it, sorry.

Is it a bungalow or a house?

However, to try and help then from your description it sounds similar to us knocking our garage and kitchen into 1 for which we need:

to get 1 long steel in to support wall we are knocking out between kitchen and garage.
block up the current back door,
cut new back doors,
raise the floor,
board and plaster it all,
new stud wall and door to make new utility,
move electric meters
brick up the garage door.

No water or drains need moved as such but pipes on the wall we are knocking down need to be sorted out.

No estimates so far (awaiting a proper quote) but our budget is up to £30,000 for the building work and then the kitchen on top.

Hope that helps and good luck with everything, take care xx

OP. Very wise words by Parisdisneyfan. I also wouldn't contemplate anything with a relative who is currently unwell.
I hope your Mum improves soon.

Never underestimate the chaos any type of building or renovation work causes. As we speak we are on Day 2 of a new boiler installation. The house is in chaos!

Sadly my mum has come home to die.
She has a rare form of cancer-had an extreme operation last year & started to improve a little earlier this year-however the awful disease has won the battle against her.

I am so so sorry to hear that, but I definitely wouldn’t be thinking of doing anything until you are strong enough to cope in the future. Maybe just get an architect round to draw up plans so you mum can see what would look like. They wouldn’t be there long and our one did 3D plans so it was like you were in the rooms.

Sending you lots of strength to get through the time you have together, love and big hugs xxx

Such sad news - I lost both my parents to this terrible disease so my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

My own opinion would be not to contemplate any work like this until you are it a better place.

Take care
