10 days to go AND now told of extra car hire charge

Just received our tickets for our holiday (flights, hotels & car hire booked through agent as a "package") and noticed on car hire voucher that there could be a one way charge payable locally. Travel Agent has confirmed that a further cost of approx £170 is payable to car hire company. Surely this should have been included in the "total cost of holiday" that was quoted and paid for?

You need to check the terms and conditions to see where you stand. You might well find that local charges are specifically excluded, as is usual.

I've been told Alamo introduced the charge in March 2015 but as our booking was placed before this date with no one way fee the charge has been waived - phew!

That's good news. If they hadn't and I was in your shoes I would have fought tooth and nail not to pay it!

You certainly need your wits about you! I wonder how many unsuspecting people have just paid these unquoted fees when they collect their car - at that point they have you over a barrel.

Glad you managed to sort this problem out before your trip

There are lots of travel agents and package companies who say "Car-hire included" but then add charges on to pay at the airport. Sometimes this is insurances which can be hundreds of pounds.
I like to book everything including car hire myself then I know there really isn't anything else to pay.
