Any Scrapbookers?

I am looking for some guidance on creating a scrapbook. It is my dads 60th Birthday in June and I am hoping to make him a memory book (he has been diagnosed with early Alzheimers Disease)

I have ordered a "This is Your Life" scrapbook from Etsy but I want to "jazz it up" a bit rather than just sticking photos in, I googled Scrapbooking... but OMG there is a vast amount of websites and information. Can anyone recommend some kits/accessories to get started for a beginner?

TIA

You can get some bits in Hobbycraft and The range if you have those stores locally.

There are 100s of ranges so it’s hard to recommend one. As it really depends what appeals to you.

There is a forum called UKScrappers.co.uk which has links to shops and many avid Scrapbookers but a bit like theDibb it can become overwhelming if you try and learn everything.

Range and Ebay are good - Michaels in Florida is the best - I always bring back far too much - have a google at scrapbook pages on the internet for inspiration

Hi
I am a scrapbooker and often asked to do albums for various occasions, check out scrapbook.com or pinterest for layout ideas.
As mentioned previously The range or Hobbycraft do lots of embellishments and papers etc, the easiest way would be to purchase some paper pads as you will get lots of layouts from one and then just add a title or journal card and embellishments, what page size is the album you have purchased? Paper pads come in 6x6", 8x8" and 12x12" twelve inch is the size I scrapbook some people do 8x8 and the 6x6 pads are useful for layering etc. Some also do A4 layouts. You can of course trim the 12x12 down to the page size you need. Also purchase some plain colours of cardstock and this will form the base of the page for you to add patterned paper and photos etc to.

Another idea is to do digital scrapbooking and then get each layout printed out and you then place in the album, they are very good but would be flat like a photograph but look like they are layered with embellishments etc.

i am happy to help if you need anything else xxx

I worked in a specialist Alzheimer's unit we used to find these great when families made them especially if hey put in stories about when and where the photographs were taken
Newspaper headlines music from the years on CD what was big on TV old fashioned sweets and coins or pictures of famous brands might not be something you want to do but just a suggestion

Definitely the Range is a good place to start as they have a good selection. I am also a 12x12 scrapbooker and collect tickets, restaurant cards, tags etc to add to my layouts.

Another idea is to add some hidden journaling, maybe on tags that you can slide behind the photos. You could get some of your Dads friends/family members to write little stories behind any pictures you might be using.

Good luck, its a wonderful way of preserving our memories.
